Medical cannabis has two main cannabinoids, THC and CBD. These compounds present within the leaf extract are known to reduce pain experienced by migraine patients. The mechanism is based on its effects on the network of cannabinoid receptors which affects how a person perceives and feels pain. Cannabis and compounds present within it, attach to these receptors and change their functioning by calming the pain signals released. Another study conducted by University of Colorado, showed that the research subjects who dealt with regular migraine headaches used Medicated Cannabis daily to prevent attacks and about 40% of them said that the occurrence of migraine headaches they had every month got reduced to half.
